Fashion is a powerful tool. It can change the way you look at yourself. And yet, so many of us, myself included, have spent much of our lives unsatisfied with our looks, especially moving into the professional world.
Since my I left my steampunk/goth phase behind in high school (we’re talking tailcoats and full raccoon eyes), I’d been trying to find what style I wanted to define me. My favorite clothing pieces were ones that made me feel like I could do anything and be anything–literally. Flowy long dresses, knee high boots and vests, long coats with hoods–looking back, I realize a lot of my most worn outfits have always had that Renaissance Festival kind of vibe.
Wearing this kind of eclectic fashion, even just to costumed event, made me feel like a badass. And I thought, “wouldn’t it be neat if I could feel like this all the time?”
So, I did! I decided to commit to the aesthetic and buy clothes that make me feel a little more magical. Clothes that would make sense if someone saw me walking through the woods under the stars emitting a mystical glow, you know?
Funnily enough, that genre of fashion isn’t particularly mainstream, and I’ve struggled to find what I was looking for without resorting to cheap fast fashion, which is awful for the environment as well as the workers and communities where the clothes are made.
Women’s fashion is a massive industry and, unfortunately, most of it isn’t sustainable or even humane. While it’s not always possible for some people to avoid fast fashion, I’ll be trying my best to promote brands and creators that you can feel good about.
This blog will document my research into brands that bring some fantasy vibes into my wardrobe and share what I’m learning along the way. Join my email list or follow me on Instagram to be notified of new posts, and together we can make our wardrobes and surroundings just a bit more magical!
