The magnificent magic of soft biker shorts

So, you’ve found a beautiful long skirt or dress and you’re ready to go for a barefoot hike through a grassy field to watch the sunrise. Everything is going well–until you thighs start rubbing together, and then your graceful gait turns into walking like a duck with your knees pointed outward as you try to avoid the burn from the dreaded “chub rub.”

That’s where the magic of soft, cozy biker shorts come in! Not those thick exercise shorts that you wear while actually biking, mind you, but soft, mid-thigh cotton or cotton-like material that you forget you’re wearing, even in hot summers. Except, of course, when a gust of wind comes by and blows up your skirt and you panic for a minute before realizing that, phew, you’re good–thank you, biker shorts!

Keep in mind that these comfier, lighter variations on biker shorts do tend to be a bit more on the transparent side, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend wearing them as standalone shorts.

You can search any variation of “cotton biker shorts” and you’ll find more options everywhere from Etsy to most of your favorite clothing brands.

Now, this concept definitely isn’t a new invention–there have been similar items available for years, largely as part of shapewear sets. And for years, those were what I wore under my skirts and dresses. To be honest, though, I’ve always found them to be tight and uncomfortable (no matter what the ads told me), made of that jersey-like compression material. Now that biker shorts are so mainstream, however, there are tons of comfier alternatives out there!

I can guarantee that I’m wearing some version of these biker shorts in pretty much every single picture you might see of me in a skirt. Not only do they eliminate any walking discomfort, they ensure that you can do a cartwheel or high kick whenever you want! And, I mean, you never know when you’ll need to cartwheel away from someone for dramatic effect.
